What Can I Do?
Water conservation. It’s a responsibility that all Tampa Bay area residents share. But many people don’t conserve like they should. Whether the reason is a lack of knowledge or desire, one thing is clear—not everyone does his or her part. |

Those neighbors who leave their sprinklers on when it’s raining, or the person who takes an hour-long shower not once, but twice a day are spoiling it for everyone. That’s why it is important for you to take responsibility for your own water use. You can’t control what other Hillsborough residents do, but you can educate yourself and control your personal use of water. |

The pristine rivers, lakes, wetlands and coastal waters of Florida are what make our state desirable for tourism, business and residential development. Tourism and development naturally mean more people, and more people demand more water. The Tampa Bay region is growing. In the past five years, the region has added numerous housing developments and schools, new shopping and dining opportunities, and more roads and highways. All of these activities require more water. |
To keep pace with that demand, new water supplies are being developed and Hillsborough County is working hard to manage our water supplies the right way. The County’s efforts have helped Hillsborough reduce our adjusted per capita water use rate (average per person) to lower levels than most municipalities in Southwest Florida. |
|
We can always do more, however. Through the efforts of individual residents like you, the quality of our environment can be protected and maintained. |
