Pure, dependable and affordable water supplies are critical to the Tampa Bay region’s continued vitality. However, not all water supplies are created equal. Our supply of groundwater, for instance, is limited and dependant on rainfall. When groundwater is pumped excessively from the aquifer our environment is adversely affected. Damage to our environment can directly impact our economy and quality of life.

Innovative programs and forward-thinking County officials are helping to ensure the sustainability of the environment in Hillsborough County and the Tampa Bay region.
Hillsborough County has successfully offset some of its groundwater use by encouraging water conservation and maximizing the use of reclaimed water.

By working to reduce our dependency on groundwater, Hillsborough County is taking an important step toward protecting the environment for the future. As other counties and communities around the state and nation struggle to meet increasing demand for water, Hillsborough County is confident of its ability to provide a dependable and affordable supply to its residents.

The County is charged with making sure that supply doesn’t come with a heavy environmental price, however. Along with the County’s rigorous water restrictions policy and conservation programs, the expanded use of reclaimed water should add to Hillsborough’s success in reducing regional dependency on groundwater. Through a commitment to using alternative supplies and conserving water, Hillsborough County is making strides to preserve the quality of the environment for the future.
